His paternal grandparents were Mark [Jr @@] Thornton and Susannah Elizabeth "Susan" Dozier. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Jeremiah [@@], Benjamin T [Sr @@], Reuben [@@], Evans [@@], Jonathan M [@@], Greene [@@], Sanford [@@], Martha Ann "Patsy" [@@], Priscilla [@@], Elizabeth White [@@] and Lucy [@@]. He was the fourth oldest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 78 in 1863 in Macon Co, IL.-
