Benjamin Franklin Shipley 
Benjamin Franklin was born on November 9th, 1835 in , Hamilton County, Tennessee, USA.1 Benjamin Franklin's father was Benjamin Franklin SHIPLEY and his mother was Sarah "Sally" BURKETT. His paternal grandparents were Richard SHIPLEY and Henrietta HUGHES. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Nathan Pascal, William Park, Richard, James, Elijah, Thomas, Ibbey Jane, Susan Arabelle, Naomi Jane and Hanna Rette. He was the fifth oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 86 on August 18th, 1922 in Selma, Fresno County, California, USA. Benjamin Franklin Shipley, Jr. was born the 9th of November, 1835(1) in Hamilton County, Tennessee, USA the sixth child of Benjamin Franklin Shipley Sr. and Sarah "Sally" Burkett. He married Mary Sharp Lester about 1860.(2) She was born the 2nd of October, 1840 (3) in Cedarville, Crawford County, Arkansas, USA to William Thomas Lester and Margaret Elizabeth Talkington.(4) Mary's sister, Elizabeth Mildred, married Benjamin's brother, Nathan Pascal. Their eight children were all born in Arkansas: Alice about 1861, William Nathan in 1865, Samuel S. in 1866 or 1867, Walter about 1869, Margaret in 1870, Benjamin Franklin in 1872, Virginia Mae in 1874, and Harrison Edmond in 1878.(5) The family moved to California about 1888 where Benjamin farmed. Mary died the 17th of December, 1908 in Selma, Fresno County, California, USA. Benjamin died the 18th of August 1922 in Selma, Fresno County, California, USA. They are both buried in the Old Selma Cemetery, Selma, Fresno County, California, USA.

(1) Death certificate Number 22-033944, state of California, dated September 05, 1922, and his tombstone list his birth year as 1835 but, he was said to be 83 years, 9 months, 9 days old when he died, which means his birth year would have been 1839. Cause of death was apoplexy.
(2) Marriage date has been given as the 16th of January, 1864 in Van Buren, Crawford County, Arkansas, USA. I believe this marriage date is incorrect. 1) The 1860 census for Cedar Creek Township, Crawford County, Arkansas, USA page 751, 978/946: Benj Shipley, 21, m, farmer, $170 (pers), TN, married within the year; Mary, 18, f, AR, married within the year, 2) Their first child, Alice Shipley was born about 1861. In the 1870 census Alice is listed as 10 years old.
(3) Tombstone has Oct. 2, 1840. Another source says Oct. 8, 1841.
