Susan was born in 1808 in Kentucky.1  Susan's father was John Reeves and her mother was Catherine Perry.  Her paternal grandparents were George Reeves and Sarah Locker; her maternal grandparents were Obadiah Perry and Elizabeth. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Thornberry, Henderson, John, Jane, Rebecca, Ruth, Mildred and Nancy.  She was the third oldest of the nine children.

Susan's family with William T. Skaggs

Susan and William were married in a religious ceremony on March 5th, 1828 in Green Co., Kentucky by John D. Oakes.2  They had seven sons and two daughters, named Moses, William, George, Joseph, Jasper, Benjamin, Joshua, Susanna and Chloe.
