Boland \ Boling was born in 1839 in Georgia. Boland \ Boling's father was Robert N McLinn and his mother was Exor (Exy) Potter. His paternal grandparents were Hugh Macklin \ McLin Jr and Catherine Kerr. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Marion, Robert, William, Jane and V Frances.
