His paternal grandparents were Constant T. Grogan and Frances Elizabeth Price. He had five brothers and nine sisters, named Honor Johnson, Constine Emilous, Shular Gray, James Robert, Cecil Herman, Hester, Posie Jackson, Josie Beulah, Dorthea, Nora Elizabeth, Rosie Lee, Mollie Mae, Kathleen and Loula Hazel.
