His paternal grandparents were Simon Fraser and Margaret Strathearn. He had a brother named Hugh. He was the younger of the two children. He had two half-sisters named Agnes and Euphemia. He died in March 1416 in Lovat Castle, Kilmorack, Invernesshire, Scotland.-
