His paternal grandparents were James Foster and Elizabeth Parish. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Elijah, Henry G, Isaac Hillery, Hillery and Virginia. He was the third youngest of the six children. He died at the age of 66 in 1867 in Davie, North Carolina, United States.-
