His paternal grandparents were Thomas Foster and Susanna Foster. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John William, Thomas Crittenden, George Henry, Martha Ann, Penecia and Sarah Elizabeth. He was the third oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 74 on June 26th, 1904 in Sidney, Fremont, Iowa, USA. He was buried in June 1904 in Sidney Cemetery, Sidney, Fremont County, Iowa.-
