Alexander was born about 1450 in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Alexander's father was James Forbes and his mother was Egidia Keith. His paternal grandparents were Alexander Forbes and Elizabeth Douglas. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Lord Forbes William, Duncan, Patrick, Egidia and Agnes. He was the third youngest of the six children.-
