Soloman was born in 1835 in White Co, TN.  Soloman's father was Drury Simmons and his mother was Rutha Adair.  His paternal grandparents were James Simmons and Stacy Ann Roberts. He had six brothers and two sisters, named William, James, Francis, Zachariah, Joseph, Fineas Finis, Martha and Stacy.  He was the third oldest of the nine children. He had a half-sister named Susan A..
