Henry was born in 1867 in White Co, TN.  Henry's father was George Washington Simmons and his mother was Lydia Margaret Frances McBride.  His paternal grandparents were Francis Simmons and Martha 'Patsey' Sparkman. He had three brothers and two sisters, named William, Albert Armstrong, Clinton M., Martha A. and Mary.  He was the third youngest of the six children.
