William was born in 1809 in Orange Co, NC.1   William's father was Ephraim Roberts and his mother was Nancy Harris.  His paternal grandparents were Charles Roberts and Frances Langston. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Willie, Ephraim, Jesse, Pleasant B., Rachel, Winney Ford, Mary Polly, Nancy and Martha Susan.  He was the second oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 61 in 1870.1
