Pique was born in 1848 in Henderson Co, TN.  Pique's father was William W. Cary and his mother was Caroline Hammett.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Cary and Elizabeth Roberts. He had four brothers named Alexander, Felix, Elbert and Thomas.  He was the youngest of the five children. He had nine half-brothers and six half-sisters, named James Benjamin, Oliver Columbus, Silas Henry, George W., Robert N., William Wiley, Jeremiah, Granville Martin, Albert Riley, Grisey Ann, Sarah Elizabeth, Eliza Ann, Martha E., Nancy Callie and Cynthia J..
