Herbert was born about 0825 in Florence, Tuscany, Italy.1   Herbert's father was Bonifacio Marchese of Tuscany III and his mother was Bertha.  His paternal grandparents were Bonifacio de Lucca I and <Unknown>. He had two brothers and a sister, named Herbert, Adalbert and Richilde.  He was the third oldest of the four children.
