David was born on March 5th, 1323 in Dunfermline, Fifeshire, Scotland.1  David's father was King, Earl of Carrick Robert (The Bruce) of Scotland I and his mother was Elizabeth de Burgh.  His paternal grandparents were 3rd Earl of Carrick Robert de Brus Lord of Annandale and Countess Margaret of Carrick; his maternal grandparents were 2nd Earl of Ulster Richard (The Red) de Burgh and Margaret de Guines. He had a brother and two sisters, named John, Maud and Margaret.  He was the third oldest of the four children. He had a half-sister named Majorie.
