Konrad, known as Der Grosse, was born in 1098 in Meissen, Dresden, Saxony.1   Der Grosse's father was Count Thimo of Wettin and his mother was Princess Ida of Bavaria.  He was an only child.  He died at the age of 59 on February 5th, 1157 in Kloster Petersberg Bei Halle, Sachsen, Prussia.1
