Siegfried was born about 1086 in Alt-Leiningen, Pfalz, Bavaria.1   Siegfried's father was Count Emich of Leiningen I and his mother was Countess Adelheid of Leiningen. He had three brothers named Gerlach, Emich and Konrad.  He was the youngest of the four children.
