Heinrich was born about 1108 in Alt-Leiningen, Pfalz, Bavaria.1   Heinrich's father was Count Emich of Leiningen II and his mother was Alberat von Nassau.  His paternal grandparents were Count Emich of Leiningen I and Countess Adelheid of Leiningen. He had two brothers named Gunther and Emich.  He was the second oldest of the three children.
