Agnes was born about 1230 in Alt-Leiningen, Pfalz, Bavaria.1   Agnes' father was Count Friedrich of Saarbrucken Hartenburg Leining II and her mother was Countess Agnes of Eberstein.  Her paternal grandparents were Count Simon of Saarbrucken II and Countess Luitgard of Leiningen; her maternal grandparents were Count Eberhard of Eberstein III and Kunigunde of Andechs. She had seven brothers and two sisters, named Simon, Friedrich, Emich, Heinrich, Berthold, Eberhard, Walram, Elisabeth and Countess of Leiningen.  She was the youngest of the ten children.
