William de Cantelou III

William was born about 1216 in Calne, Wiltshire, England.¹ William's father was William Cantelou II and his mother was Millicent Gournay. His paternal grandparents were William Cantelou and Mecelin Braci; his maternal grandparents were Hugh de Gournay IV and <Unknown>. He had a brother and two sisters, named Thomas, Juliana and Agnes. He died on September 25th, 1254 in Calstone, Wiltshire, England. His burial was in Studley Priory, Warwickshire, England.²¹

  Magna Charta Sureties states that William was Lord Abergavenny, but this is probably dated information. Complete Peerage XIV:87, seems to take William's Abergavenny title away from him, in correcting CP II:129. Burkes seems to agree with CP in stating that William's son George held Abergavenny for 18 years.
