John was born before 1765 in Frederick Co., Maryland.1   John's father was Thomas Payne and his mother was <Unknown>.  His paternal grandparents were Flayl Payne and <Unknown>. He had a brother and five sisters, named Flayl, Sarah, Joanna, Elizabeth, Martha and Mary.  He was the youngest of the seven children.  He died about 1836 in Lawrence Co., Ohio.1
