Sigurd's father was Earl of Orkney Hlodve (Lodar) Thorfinnsson and his mother was Audna of Ireland. His paternal grandparents were Earl Thorfinn (Skull Cleaver) of Orkney and Grelod Duncansdatter of Caithness. He was an only child. He died at the age of 54 on April 23rd, 1014.¹
