Aelia was born in 0399.  Aelia's father was Archadius and her mother was Aelia Eudoxia.  Her paternal grandparents were Theodosius I and Aelia Flavia Flaccilla; her maternal grandparents were Bauto Franks and <Unknown>. She had a brother and three sisters, named Theodosus Ii, Marina, Arcadia and Flacilla.  She was the oldest of the five children.
