Before marrying Christine, Raymond had been married to Anna Davis, sister to his brother William's wife. They were married about three years and had no children.

During the Depression years he worked for WPA building bridges and after moving to Sandusky he went to work for Wagner Quarries. Durng World War II he worked for the Trojan Powder Company making explosives for the military. The Trojan Co. was located at what was later known a NASA Plumbrook in Sandusky. After the war he went back to work for the quarry and worked 40 years as a welder before retiring.

He was heavy cigarette smoker and in 1963 his larnynx was removed because of cancer. He learned to talk using esophagal speech and he talked so well that doctors convinced him to attend classes at Bowling Green college to get his credentials so he could hold classes and teach others to talk again.

Raymond was an alcoholic and heavy drinker until about 1951 when he joined AA and never drank again.
