He was made Ensign when his brother was made Ltnt. Oct.1751.1756,special assembly,made Lieutenant of the 8thCompany, 1st Regiment of troops raised for the expedition toCrown Point. May 1756 was made Capt. of 2ndCompany of Preston. He represented the town in Legislature at May session 1759. He removed to Worthington,Mass. before1768. During that year a bill was passed by the Provincial Congress of the State creating the new "plantation #3" in the county of Hampshire into a town called Worthington and the following warrant was issued by Hon. Israel Williams who had been empowered to call a meeting of the inhabitants:
" These are therefore in his Majesty's name to require you Nathan Leonard, to notify and warn the inhabitants of Worthington that they assemble together at the house of Alexander Miller innholder in said town on the first Monday of August next at 10 of the clock, in the forenoon then and there in public meeting to choose all such officers as towns within the Province are impowered and enabled by law to choose in the month of March annually. Hereof you Nathan may not fail. Given under my hand and seal, at Hatfield in Hampshire county this eleventh day of July in the eighth year of his Majesty's reign, anno Domini 1769.

At the town meeting thus called Capt. Nathan Leonard was chosen moderator and was made one of 3 selectmen of the town. In 1775 he was chosen as Representative to the General Court. He was one of the first Deacons of the Church chosen in 1771.

NATHAN LEONARD
Nathan Leonard was the youngest son of Samuel Leonard, famous for his escape from the Indians in 1697, already described. He was born in 1717. In 1739 he married Abigail Herrick, of this town. In 1756 he was commissioned Lieutenant, and served with the expedition against Crown Point, and the same year was raised to the rank of Captain. In 1757, he and his men were called out for the relief of Fort William Henry. Twenty-four of them rode horses from Preston. The length of service was 16 days.A few years after the close of this war he removed to Mass. and became a citizen of the town of Worthington in that colony.
