Robert Lawrence Archer Dobson (1920-1958) was born shortly before his parents moved to Nairobi, Kenya, Africa. He was raised there, where his parents ran a hotel for many years. Robert served in the 1939-1945 war (World War II) in Major King's Dragoon Guards. He married Kathleen (Last name unknown) sometime following the end of hostilities in World War II, and they had one child, a daughter, Rowena Dobson, born in Nairobi in 1951.

Major Cosgrove, who gathered this information about his family in 1962 and 1963 found a faded photograph of, among others, Robert Lawrence Archer Dobson somewhere in his travels. On the back of the photograph were inscribed the following words.

Robt. Lawrence Archer Dobson, son of Capt. John J. Dobson and Marie Florence Johnstone. Grandson of George Dobson of Mohill and the Marquis of Annadale. The latter married a relation of the late Empress Eugenie of France. Bobby is therefore an in-law of Christopher Columbus. He was 4 years 10 months of age when this picture was taken and is now 6 years.
