Funeral Services for the late Mr. William O. Watson, whose death was briefly mentioned in last weeks issue of the Commercial, were held at the family residence, 523 Cherry Street, Lansing, on Wednesday morning. Rev. Powley, of Flint, read the service of the Congregational church. Mr. C.E. Godfrey, who for many years enjoyed an intimate friendship with Mr. Watson was called to Lansing to conduct the funeral. At its conclusion, the remains were brought to Fremont cemetary for interment, accompanied by members of the family and a large party of relatives.
William O. Watson was born at Iosco, Livingston County, August 23, 1871, and passed away September 18, having just completed a half century of life. He leaves to mourn his loss a devoted wife, two daughters, Georgia and Martha, two sons Harry and William E., a brother M.N. Watson of Royal Oak, and two sisters, Mrs. A.A. Reeves of Rochester, N.Y. and Mrs. E.H. Martin of Royal Oak. He was the son of late Wm. E. Watson, one of Bancroft's best known merchants and had spent most of his life here. As boy and man he was known to everyone in the village and will long be remembered for his pleasing, friendly manner, for his efficiency as a business man and for his interest in the Welfare of the Community. He was a member of the Masonic order.
During some years when Mr. Watson was in the hardware business in Bancroft his store was frequently the subject of admiring comment, it being considered remarkable that a hardware could be made to present so artistic an appearance. Three years ago he with his family moved to Lansing where he became assistant manager of the Mills Dry Goods Company. In his physical appearance, he was a fine specimen of Manhood and when last April he suffered a sudden attack of heart trouble it was hoped that he would soon recover, but recurring attacks reduced his strength until he finally succombed to the disease.
