Robert Pennoyer:
The History of Stamford, Connecticut; Huntington: "Robert Pennoyer was the son of Thomas Butler of Dorston, Hereford, a weaver. He left from Bristol, England and changed his name because he had been a witness to a murder. He came on the "Hopewell" with his brother, Thomas, aged 10, in 1635. He was in Stamford by 1648 when he was cited for drunkeness. He had a house on the corner of the west side of West Street and the road to the mill in 1659. He was charged with drinking wine, being noisy and turbulent and abusing the watchman. Several parcels of land were assigned to him. He was sentenced to a whipping in 1639."

Early Settlement of Stamford, Connecticut 1641-1700; Jeanne Majdalany: "In 1677 Robert Pennoyer moved to Mamaroneck, New York. Thomas, his son, went to settle Bedford, New York in 1680 and returned in 1684. Robert's brother was the William Pennoyer of Harvard fame."

Nicholas Knapp Genealogy; Alfried Avery Knapp; 1953: Robert's father may have been William Pennoyer of London and his mother was Martha Jocecyn.
