the Auther of "A Little Family History" giving background to her family members.
"Not many months after my dear grandmother's death I was placed at school at St. Mary's, boarding with a well educated lady of elegant and polished manners. While boarding with Mrs. Osborne, she married Mr. Paris, from the West Indies, who, with his aged mother, paid a visit to friends in Nassau, accompanied by his beautiful you step-daughter, Maria Innis Osborne. In returning to St. Mary's, the vessel was lost off St. Andrew's Bar. Poor Maria, was the only person drowned. She refused to throw off her clothing, or could have been saved by one deeply interested in her.
(......There is more) Early in 1807 I was placed at a high school in Beaufort, SC, so also were my brother Charles and sister Sarah, taught by Mr & Mrs Hicks and Miss Lavinia Cady......In the Spring of 1810, I was sent to Charleston, SC, the Catholic Seminary......I boarded with Grandma Waight, and during that time Bishop Stephen Elliott was born......My dear grandfather came for me and carried me home in his own boat, stopping at Beaufort and Savannah on his way. Once more at home and very happy, but not long to stay, before my father carried me to St. Mary's where I pursued the accomplishments of dancing, French and music.....
