Chester meeting - the ground on which their meeting house is erected was conveyed by deed 1736 to trustees: Jacob Howell, Thomas Cummings, John Owen, Samuel Lightfoot, John Salkeld, Jr, and John Sharpless, Jr, and that by the declaration of trust, it was provided that if any of these were disowned or deceased, their places might be filled by appointment
By a deed dated 16 Apr 1726, John Sharples of Redley, yeoman, conveyed to his son John Sharples, cordwainer, "for the sum of 5 shillings of lawful money of the said Province," and "for the natural love and affection which he hath & beareth to the said John," a messuage or tenement where the son then dwelt, together with 155 acres of land. George Sharpless, the present owner of this homestead, says he resided in the old house from 1832 to 1839.
John Sharpless also inherited more land by the will of his father, includinga few acres in Chester twonship, which was probably marshy ground, then considered valuable for hay and pasture, as little had been done toward the cultivation of the grasses.
By deed of 21 Apr 1763, John Sharples and wife conveyed to James Mather of Chester, innkeeper, a lot in Chester for 45 pounds, which his father bought of Jonas Sandelands in 1712.
In 1764 he was assessed in Nether Providence with 105 acres of land, with buildings, 65 acres uncultivated land, 4 acres of marsh in grass, 5 horses, 5 cattle and 5 sheep. He died intestate and letters of adm. on his estate were granted 9 Sep 1769 to Thomas Swayne. The inv. appraised 9 mo.17, 1769, by William Swaffer and Isaac Weaver, amounted to 364/00/01.
A petition 17 Dec 1770 was presented to the orphans' Court for an inquisition on the real estate.... for the remaining living child, a daughter who thus inherited twice as much as her uncle., awarded 31 May 1771 to Reuben Roberts, who had married the 2nd dau. Margaret.
