John was born on December 5th, 1658 in Northampton, Hampshire, MA.1 John's father was Isaac Sheldon and his mother was Mary Woodford. His paternal grandparents were Isaac Sheldon and Barbara Stone; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Woodford and Mary Woodford Blott. He had six brothers and six sisters, named Isaac, Thomas, Eleazer, Samuel, Joseph, Ebenezer, Mary, Ruth, Thankful, Hannah, Mindwell and Mercy. He had a half-brother named Jonathan. Capt. John Sheldon on a committee 2 Nov 1713 to ascertain the nature of the
Indian Claims for Hartford Co. 19 Dec 1721, he was charged with the
responsibility of selecting a place for another plantation. In 1706, brought
to Boston 44 captives from Canada. They had been captured by the Indians
during the Deerfield Masacur 29 Feb 1704 and walked to Canada.
