  !Nine children were listed for Rev. John Lathrop, however, I think his 1st wife
  died before leaving England and he remarried and had more children. My
  guess is that the 1st three were from his 1st marriage and the last 6 from his
  second marriage.
  !A written history left by my grandmother Georgia Winifred Cole Brace, stated
  that he had 14 children, of whom 6 were born in this country.  Following is her
  written account.
  !Reverend John Lathrop or Lothropp ( as formerly written) came to America in
  1634.  Rev. John Lothropp was the son of Thos Lowthroppe or Lorthrop ( and Mary
  2nd wife, who was born Jan 6. 1588) of Etton, Harthill Wapentake, East Riding,
  Yorkshire.  He was born 1584. Baptized Dec. 20, 1584.  Came to America Sept.
  18, 1634 in the "Griffin".  Died Barnsstable, Mass. in 1653.
  !He was educated at Queen's College, Cambridge where he 'matriculated in 1601
  graduated B.A. in 1605 and M.A. in 1609".  In 1611 he became a curate of the
  parish Church Egerton, Co. Kent, where he remained until 1623, when from
  conscientious scruples, he resigned his office in the Church of England, and
  became Pastor of the First Independent Church of London, which had no regular
  place of worship, but met from house to house.  With the greater part of his
  congregation he was arrested April 22, 1632, by the spies of Archbishop Land,
  and confined to Mygates prison, from which he was released in 1634 & sailed for
  New England, arriving in Sept of that year.  He was pasotor of the Church in
  Situate, Mass. and later at Barnstable, shere he died in 1653.
  !Morton, in the New England Memorial names John Lothropp as among "the
  specialist' of the ministers who came to New England.
  !Mr. Otis of Barnstable, an authority on all that relates to the early history
  of the town, says that "he was a man who held opinions in advance of the
  times. During the 14 years that he was pastor in Barnstable Church, such was
  his influence over the people that the power of the Civil Magistrate was not
  needed to restrain crime."  No pastor ws more beloved.  To become a member of
  his church, no applicant was compelled to sign a creed, or profession of faith.
  He retained his freedom.  He professed his faith in God and promised that it
  should be his constant endeavor to keep his commands, to live a pure life and
  to walk in line with the brethren'.  During his imprisonment Mr. Lathrop in
  London, his 1st wife died and in 1635 he married (2) Anne ------.  He had 14
  children of whom 6 were born in this country.  Samuel was the only one who came
  to Connecticut.  The others remained in Massachusetts.
