Jonathan Gilbert 
Jonathan was born on June 8th, 1617 in Yardley, Worcestor, England.1 Jonathan's father was Thomas Gilbert and his mother was Elizabeth Bennett. His paternal grandparents were Richard Gilbert and Margery Morken. He had five brothers and a sister, named Josiah, Obadiah, Thomas, Ezekial, John and Sarah. He died at the age of 65 on December 10th, 1682 in Hartford, Connecticut.1 General Notes

Jonathan Gilbert:
Jonathan was known as the Cornet of the Hartford Troops. Townsman 1658, 1664, 1670, 1674, 1678; Deputy; Collector of Customs; Marshall of the Colony. Was interpreter between the Indians and the English during negotiations. Engaged in the trade and coasting business. Possessed great wealth. Jonathan Jr., eldest son of Mary White contested his father's will in which he was not mentioned. He mentioned spending time in the West Indies. Jonathan's son, Thomas was Captain of the "Swan" which captured the French ship "Saint Jacob" in the St. Lawrence. In Sep 1695 the tables turned and the French captured the "Swan" and held the crew prisoners. After 2 months the prisoners were released in exchange of prisoners with England.
