Walter was born about 1010 in Of, Longueville, Normandy, France.1   Walter's father was Osbren De Bolbec and his mother was Avelina DeCrepon.  His maternal grandfather was Herbastus DeCrepon. He had two brothers named Berenger and Osborne Osbert (Gyffarde).  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died in 1084 in France.2
