  Israel Cook ( 1692)
  The ancestors from whom most of the Cooks in New England trace their
  descent, came from Herefordshire and Kent, in  England.  The ancestral
  branch  from whom those of the name trace their origin, now resident in
  various parts  of the state, came from Kent, and were of the Puritan stock.
  Henry Cook was at  Plymouth, MA, before 1640.  His sons Henry and Samuel
  settled at Wallingford, and are the ancestors of most of the name of Cook
  in CN, and of many in various  parts of the country.
  Samuel Cook came to New Haven in 1663, md. Hope, dau. of Ed. Parker of
  New  Haven, May 2, 1667. They went to Wallingford in Apr 1670, with the
  first  planters.  He was, perhaps, the first and only shoemaker and tanner
  of leather  in the place.  After the decease of his wife Hope, he married
  Mary Roberts, Jul  14, 1690.  He was regarded as a very good man by his
  friends and neighbors, and  was frequently called to fill offices of
  responsibility and trust in the  village, and in the church of which he was
  a member.  He left an estate of 340  pounds.  His widow md. Jeremiah How,
  Sen., Apr 9, 1705.
