I am looking for the PEYTON OR PAYTON Family Bible that PHILIP PEYTON or PAYTON took to Kentucky with him ca. 1785 per HENRY PAYTON in his Rev. War pension application. S 8943.
Pension #23.336
"From the information of my parents I was born in the county of Culpeper and State of Virginia on the 19th day of January in the year 1760". Quoting from the application of Henry Peyton in Cabell Co., Va., now W. Va.:
"My age was recorded in a Bible belonging to PHILIP PAYTON one of my Uncles who has since moved to the state of Kentucky." "When called into service I lived in the County of Amherst and State of Virginia. Since the war I remained there twenty years then I moved to the County of Kanawha now the county of Cabell." Applied 28 October 1833 stated age 73.
PHILIP PEYTON may have left the Bible after his death with one of his childrens' families. Philip Peyton married Winnifred Bussell or Bufford, Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co., Va., 15 Sept. 1748. Philip Peyton can be found in tithe lists and in the court order books of King George Co., Va., and Culpeper Co., Va., as well Amherst Co., Va. before going to Lincoln Co., Ky.
