Narrative

John Stuart Butler writes "George, in 1849, made the Gold Rush to CA, returned to Panola county, Mississippi, and then married Eudora. With the money he brought back from CA and the land Eudora's father gave them they should have been pretty comfortable, but George had the 'wanderlust.' He just didn't like to farm, I guess. He sold the place (6 or 700 acres) for $40,000 dollars in gold. He went back to Panola County for a short while then went across the Mississippi River to Prescott, Arkansas, which is in SW Central Arkansas. They stayed there a short time, and then to Galveston, Austin, and finally to Cisco, TX. That is where he died and is buried. His son, Peter, and he must have really had a falling out when Peter was 14 (1875) because legend has it that G. W. was so mad at Peter Eudora told him to leave before he was killed!

We don't know what Peter did for these intervening years from 1875 till 1886 when he married Agnes Alberta Thomas in Junction, Kimble County, TX. Did he find work at farms or ranches as a teenage boy? After his marriage he and Agnes reared their children in or around Junction till they moved to San Antonio around 1895. The rest of the children were born there through 1910. He and Agnes must have had a separation; soon after that he took the younger boys up into Oklahoma. There is a hint that he went to seminary for a while in Texas for Walter claims that Peter had elaborate charts of Biblical prophesy drawn on dishtowels. When he remarried to the widow of Otis Otto Brandt, Rhoda Isabelle Phillips, they were so hard up Rhoda washed the towels to use for more practical purposes. Walter says he had a terrible temper. When G. W. his father died, Peter heard there was some money in his father's will for him. He went back to MS to see. The Bobos had inherited most of what was left and Peter and other siblings had been willed only $100.00 each. He told them they could have it!"
