Raymond's father was Walter Hitt and his mother was Nellie Wisdom. His maternal grandparents were John Willian Wisdom and Nancy Jane Back. He had five brothers and seven sisters, named Oly David, Walter, John, Emmitt Carenza, James Monroe, Dorotha, Mable, Sarah Marcella, Ruby Lee, Hester, Nellie Ann and Dorcus.-
