Niels was born on August 11th, 1777 in Svendborg.1   Niels' father was Hans Andersen and his mother was Karen Rasmusdatter.  His paternal grandfather was Anders Hansen. He had two brothers and a sister, named Rasmus, Hans and Pernille.  He was the second youngest of the four children. He had a half-brother named Christian.  He died at the age of 65 on June 13th, 1843 in Svendborg.1
