His paternal grandparents were Timothy Sargent and Asenath Tillotson. He had two brothers and three sisters, named John Bailey, Robert Bradford, Dilla G., Mary B. and Emily S.. He is the third oldest of the six children. He had a half-sister named Betty Gage.-
