His paternal grandfather was Alexander De Lindsay and his paternal grandmother is UNKNOWN Stewart; his maternal grandfather was Alexander Abernethy. He had three brothers and a sister, named Alexander, William, David and Daughter. He had five half-brothers and a half-sister, named George, John, Andrew, Norman, Walter and Margaret.
