Benjamin Wheaton 
Benjamin was born in February 1661 in Providence, RI. Benjamin's father was Robert Wheaton and his mother is Alice Bowen. His maternal grandparents were Richard Bowen and Ann Born. He was an only child. He died at the age of 23 on March 20th, 1684 in Rehoboth, MA.General Notes
1683 Received gift of lands in Attleboro from his father Robert
18 August 1683 Robert WHEATON gave deed of land in the North Purchase n
ow the town of Attleboro to his son Benjamin.
Suffolk County probate records reveal that Benjamin died intestate on 12 A
ugust 1726. Benjamin's son Benjamin was appointed to administed the esta
te on 17 November 1726. The estate was inventoried at150 pounds 9 shillin
gs and 6 pence. This document also shows that Benjamin WHEATON Sr. w
as a Cooper. The following April 28th, the court determined that the fa
rm could not be divided between the heirs without "great prejudice to or s
poiling of the whole". The matter was settled by allowing Benjamin, the s
econd son of Benjamin WHEATON, deceased, to receive title to the farm prov
ided that he pay his siblings for their share. The widow, Margaret WHEATO
N, was allowed her right of dower (one third of the estate) for life. H
er share would be divided among the children after her death. The childr
en and heirs of Benjamin WHEATON Sr. were identified as Daniel Jeremiah, D
avid and Benjamin. The eldest son, Samuel, was excluded from the settleme
nt because he already received his fullshare during the life of his father
.
A deed found in Bristol County recordsshows that on 20 March 1684/5, "Benj
amin WHEATON of ye Towne of Mendon in Ye Collony of ye Massachuset
ts in N England Late of Rehoboth in ye Collony of New Plym Cooper" sold f
or the sum of 3 pounds 10 shillings to Jonathan FILLER of Rehoboth "my who
le share of Meadow & Swampe in ye Lands called ye North purchased Lan
ds in Rehobo(th) Which share was given to me by my Father Robert WHEATON
". There can be no doubt that Benjamin WHEATON of Mendon is the son of Ro
bert WHEATON of Rehoboth. Benjamin proved this link with his own pen.
