Sir 
Sir was born about 1410 in Mochrum, Scotland.1 Sir's father was Sir. His paternal grandfather was Ninth Earl of March and Dunbar. He had two sisters named Catherine and Marjory. He was the second oldest of the three children. Sir is no longer alive.General Notes
James was a descendent of Cospatrick, a Northumbrian prince who cast his lot with Malcolm Canmore.
The following is from the "Record of the House of Kirkcudbright": "Sir Thomas M'Clellan, the son, married, first, Margaret, only daughter of Sir William Gordon of Lochinvar, ancestor of the Viscounts of Kenmure; and secondly, Agnes, daughter of Sir James Dunbar of Mochrum, a descendant of Cospatrick, a Northumbrian prince who cast in his lot with Malcolm Canmore, and was by him, in romp, created Earl of March; tracing through John Dunbar, Earl of Moray, second son of Patrick Dunbar, ninth Earl of March and Dunbar, and of Agnes his wife, the famous "Black Agnes " - 1339 - only daughter and heiress of Thomas Randolph, Earl of Moray."
This information cannot be accurate, the dates do not match. Patrick and Agnes had no sons. Patrick did have two sons by his first wife but both died without issue. The ancestry I've used is based on incomplete data and is speculative. Peter Barnes-Graham shows the father I have listed for James, John Dunbar of Cumnock and Maochrum, as having two children, Patrick and Cuthbert.
Based on the idea that there is some truth in the "Record of the House of Kirkudbright" account and that John is listed as "of Cumnock and Mochrum" by Barnes-Graham, I am making this connection. (Mike Lysell, mlysell@@comcast.net, Ancestry.com)
