Volkert Heinrich Bendixen 
Volkert Heinrich was born on October 12th, 1847 in Wyk auf Fohr, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. Volkert Heinrich's father was George Heinrich Bendixen and his mother was Catherina Margarette Lauritzen. He had five brothers and five sisters, named Lenius Harrold, George C., Herman C., Edward Conrad, Karl, Helena Sophia, Alvina Leonore, Carolina, Emma E. and Louisa. He died at the age of 84 on November 26th, 1931 in Elmira, Chemung, New York. He was buried on February 24th, 1932 in Double Tomb in Orange Grove Cemetery, Lake Charles, Louisiana.General Notes
"Wyk was a small city situated on the island of Fohr in the North Sea, in the province of Schlesing-Holstein, Germany."
"George served in the army during the Franco-Prussian War. Came to USA, landing in Galveston, Texas and thence by riverboat to Goosport, a suburb of Lake Charles, LA. He reached this place Jan. 10, 1872. His betrothed, Johanna Knudsen came with him. He made the trip from Bremer-Haven and Hamburg, Germany in a small sailing vessel owned and operated by Capt. Dan Goos, who fitted out 3 vessels, loading them with lumber, sugar and flour and went to his homecountry to bring back many of his countrymen to America, the land of opportunity.
Mr. Goos owned a large sawmill and wished to employ his fellow countrymen instead of the southern negros who were undependable. Mr. Bendixen received $20.00 (silver dollars) a month for 14 hours labor a day. Naturalized American citizen in Spring 1915. First papers taken out many years previous, called Declaration of Intention. These were lost in fire in Lake Charles, LA April 23, 1909 when the Court House was burned and many blocks of the city destroyed." Volkert Heinrich and Johanna Wilhelmina were married in a religious ceremony on November 16th, 1872 in Lake Charles, Calcasieu, LA. They had two sons and two daughters, named Henry Bernhardt, George William, Mathilda Catherina Christjana and Emma Louisa.

"Johanna Wilhelmina Knudsen was married to Volkert Heinrish Bendixen Nov. 16, 1872 in Lake Charles, LA by District Judge H. J. Reid in the presence of the following witnesses: F.G. Mochling, Daniel Goos, and Frederick Beyer.
Judge Reid lived in a large house which was later known as Mason Villa in a block bounded by Hodges, Division, Moss and Mill Streets. Mr. and Mrs. Bendixen began housekeeping in Goosport facing Calcasieu (?) River next door to Mr. Bendixen's sister, Helena, known to us as Taunta (Faunta?)"

Henry Bernhardt was born on June 19th, 1879. He died at the age of 6 on September 8th, 1885.
George William Bendixen
George William was born on November 19th, 1881. He died at the age of 1 on December 1st, 1882.
Emma Louisa Bendixen
Emma Louisa was born on July 11th, 1885 in Lake Charles, Calcasieu, Louisiana. She died at the age of 91 in 1976 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA.
