Sigurd Eysteinsson, known as The Mighty, was born about 0832 in Maer,Nord-Trondelag,Norway. The Mighty's father was Jarl of Uplanders Eystein (Glumra) Ivarsson and his mother was Countess of Oppland Ascrida Ragnvaldsdatter. His paternal grandfather was Ivar Halfdansson and his paternal grandmother is Unknown Eyesteinsdatter; his maternal grandfather was Ragnvald Olafsson and his maternal grandmother is Thora Sigurdsdotter. He had two brothers and a sister, named Rognvald Eyesteinsson, Malahule Eysteinsson and Svanhild Eysteinsdatter. He is the second oldest of the four children.-
