Immigrated to the US in 1870. Was a Dittman.  He adopted the last name of his aunt.
As related by Leilani Shidell, who had it from Larry Strutz:

His parents lived in a castle by a river with something the word black in it, or possibly black forest.  They had their choice to either die or come here.(Kaiser Wilhelm)  He had a twin brother.  He had 2 wives before Lillian. Probably married Lillian's caretaker after she died.

1850 germany was broken up into 6 states. Prussian was main one.  They wanted to unify Germany (like present state) Frederick III went ahead and signed it.  But lost his power.  This is when Bismark became the 1st president of Germany.  Anybody behind any of the kings would have been exiled or executed. Somebody in the family had made clothes for the czar (Frederick the I, II, and III)
