Edward was born about 1555 in Buckland, Berkshire, England. Edward's father was John Yate and his mother is Mary Justice. His paternal grandparents are James Yate and Mary Fettiplace; his maternal grandparents are William Justice and Mrs. William Justice. He had three brothers and six sisters, named John, James, Thomas, Miss, Elizabeth, Bridget, Mary, Dorothy and Martha. He was the oldest of the ten children.
