The family became seated in Hereford at the time of the conquest. In 1131 Geoffry de Tregoz, son of William, is said by Dugdale to have held lands of William Pevrel of London. His successors were benefactors of Hambye and one of them signed the foundation charter in 1145. Robert de Tregoz, sheriff of Wiltshire, was the distinguished warrior in the time of Richard I (1189-99), whose place of residence was Lidyard-Tregoze. The seigniory in Normandy was confiscated by Philip Augustus, but the family long remained there. Pierre de Tregoz was among the knights summoned for the service of Mont-St-Michel in 1 71. From this family descends the barons Tregoze, viscounts Bolingbroke and St. John. [Falaise Roll, pp. 109-110]
