James Sumner 
James was born about 1708 in Perquimans county, Va. James' father is William Sumner. His paternal grandparents are William Sumner and Elizabeth Clemen. He was an only child. He died about 1752 in Edenton, Chowan Precinct, North Carolina.General Notes
A James Sumner left will in Perquimans County, Virginia, March 26, 1759. He names sons: Luke two plantations); James (3 plantations); Seth (land on Sutton's Creek); David (plantation where David Kelly now lives); Robert, William, Josiah, house and lots in Suffolk, Virginia. Daughters Mary and Penelope. Wife and Executrix, Mary. Witnesses were Thomas Hurdle and Demsey Sumner. Good impression of castle on seal on this document (Grimes, p. 365). By this James having wife Mary, he is, in all probability, the son of William I.
They had a son named Robert.

Robert was born in 1721 in Fairfax Co., Virginia. He died at the age of 58 on December 1st, 1779 in Guilford, Nc. He was buried in New Garden Cemetery, Guilford, Surry Co. Nc.
