Ethelbald, d. 860, King of Wessex, son of Ethelwulf. During his fatherspilgrimage to Rome (855-56), the Ebald ruled, and in 856 helped a groupwho refused to receive Ethelwulf as King. Ethelwulf
left Wessex to his son and resumed his reign over Kent, Surrey, Sussex,and Essex. After Ethelwulfs death, in 858, Ethelbald married his fatherswidow, Judith of France. At his death Ethelbald was
